Fifty Years Ago Today,
Me Old Mum passed away.
Left a hole in many a heart,
A friendly Soul from the very Start!

Her hair so BRIGHT!
It would astound You,
A glass in her hand,
To help the day through.

‘Accident Prone’ was the phrase to use,
As every trip could cause the blues.
Us Kids we helped her ride a bike,
Something that she didn’t like.

She got her balance just about right,
But handling her brakes was such a fight.
Watch OUT here comes Ven,
She’s coming down the road on her bike again.

Eleven kids in all, what a feat?
But it took a strain she couldn’t meet.
Bells Palsey – The Doctor said,
Send her home, out of bed.

But We knew better, and soon knew,
It was the Cancer she’d fought before,
That Old Grim-Reaper’s
Knocking at her door.

Can’t eat, can’t drink, for three weeks now.
It’s like her brain just didn’t know HOW!
Time for Hospital so far away,
No time to see her before THAT DAY!

We went in to see a large nurse standing.
“Where’s Mum” we said.
“OH! I think She’s DEAD!”

What way to end a Life?
So Bright and FULL of Love?
To be dismissed as ‘Just One MORE!’
before her trip ‘Above’ ??

Fifty Years Ago Today,
Me Old Mum passed away.
Left a hole in many a heart,
A friendly Soul from the very Start!
