There’s a storm of voices rising,
Casting men as foes to fear,
Every stranger, father, brother,
Painted dark when they appear.
Does that mean a son or partner,
Or the boss who shakes your hand?
Rarely true, but louder stories
Twist the way we understand.
Men are not the enemy,
We’re the opposite, you see,
Fathers, brothers, sons together,
Caring for our family.
I recall a different season,
When respect was taught with pride,
Raise her up and hold her gently,
Keep her safe, walk by her side.
Sure, a whistle, laugh, or banter,
Human nature in the air,
Flirting light, the choice was hers,
And most young lads would leave it there.
Men are not the enemy,
We’re the opposite, you see,
Partners, brothers, sons together,
Caring for our family.
Doors were opened, chairs were lifted,
Little acts of courtesy,
Once they sparked a smile of kindness,
Now they’re scorned as mockery.
Movements turned the coin of meaning,
Calling honor some disguise,
Turned politeness into insult,
Truth exchanged for shouted lies.
Don’t mistake a hand extended,
For a chain to hold you down,
Sometimes kindness is just kindness,
Not a threat, nor hunting ground.
Men are not the enemy,
We’re the opposite, you see,
Side by side we walk together,
Sharing in humanity.
