The Oak Beam

In halls once filled with soldier’s tread,
Where maps were spread and orders read,
She wandered back, a ghost in lace,
To find the past in that old place.

The fireplace stood in timeless stone,
Its hearth long cold, its chamber lone.
She raised her hand with breath held tight,
And touched the beam in golden light.

A carving weathered, still remained,
Two names entwined, though fate had strained:
**”Ollie ♥ Gipsey”**, bold and deep—
A promise made the war would keep.

They danced but once, beneath those beams,
Then parted into distant dreams.
He sailed away to lands unknown,
She stayed and built a life alone.

Yet here she stood, near journey’s end,
A final wish, to meet her friend.
No letters came, no faces aged—
Just love, in oak, forever caged.
